Retail market comments
'The Finnish grocery retail sector largely consists of supermarket stores. IGD estimates that by the end of 2007, over 60% of all grocery stores in Finland were supermarkets.'

'The Finnish discount sector has expanded since the market entry of Lidl in 2002. Between 2002 and 2006, the total number of discount stores increased from 12 to 152. However, Kesko has recently terminated all Cassa hard discount stores.'

'The number of hypermarkets has steadily increased by a couple of stores year-on-year, passing the 100 store mark in 2005. The leading three retailers all operate hypermarket stores, but in recent years they have shifted investment to smaller store formats due to tighter planning restrictions.'
